Mohammad Rizwan named vice-captain of Pakistan T20I team

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan as the vice-captain of the T20I team on Monday.

Rizwan will serve as the vice-captain under newly-appointed captain Shaheen Afridi and their first assignment will be the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand.

The decision to appoint Mohammad Rizwan as the vice-captain was confirmed by PCB through their official X (formerly Twitter account).

“It is an honour to be named as the vice-captain of Pakistan Men’s T20I side. I am thankful to the PCB for entrusting me with this responsibility,” said Mohammad Rizwan over his appointment.

“I am looking forward to working closely with the captain, coaching staff, and my teammates to contribute to the team’s success.”

31-year-old Rizwan has featured in 85 T20Is, amassing 2,797 runs, including one century and 25 half-centuries. Behind the stumps, Rizwan has taken 41 catches and 11 stumpings.

Mohammad Rizwan is also serving as the captain of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise team Multan Sultans and has led them to their maiden PSL title in 2021.

He led them to the finals in the next two seasons but lost to Lahore Qalandars both times.

The first T20I of the five-match series will be played on 12 January in Auckland, while the last match will be played on 21 January 2024 in Christchurch.
