GRANADA: Atletico Madrid defeated Granada 1-0, thanks to a goal scored by Alvaro Morata in the second half, securing their place in the top four of the La Liga standings on Tuesday.
Atletico went past Athletic Club, who lost to Valencia recently to grab the fourth spot in the La Liga points table with more victories.
The match was played at Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes and had a slow start as both teams struggled to get a breakthrough.
Granada’s Lucas Boyé made a good effort but went wide to miss the goal, followed by Atletico’s Rodrigo Riquelme’s header finding Antoine Griezmann but was blocked outside the box.

Boyé’s cross then found Bryan Zaragoza, who hit the ball too high to miss a certain goal, continuing the stalemate.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo Riquelme made a good effort from the left side of the box after an assist by Mario Hermoso, however, the goalkeeper did not let the ball pass through him.
Morata made his first effort in the 34th minute followed by Saúl ÑÃgue’s cross with a header from a difficult angle but missed the top right corner.
Both teams continued to scratch and claw to get an advantage without any success, ending the first half at scores levelled.

Morata once again hit a header early in the second half only to be saved in the top centre of the goal, however, he did not stop there as he finally nailed a header to success about ten minutes later.
Antoine Griezmann’s cross found Morata in the centre of the box, who hit a perfect header which went on to hit the bottom left corner of the net to break the stalemate.
Granada later made several aggressive efforts to equalize but to no avail, as Atletico Madrid held on to their 1-0 lead until the final whistle.
Atletico Madrid will next face Valencia on January 29 at their home Civitas Metropolitan Stadium, while Granada will play their next La Liga game against Getafe on January 30 at Estadio Coliseum.
