Tim Southee achieves major milestone in T20I cricket

AUCKLAND: New Zealand pacer Tim Southee became the first player in T20I cricket to pick 150 wickets during his side’s 46-run victory over Pakistan in the first T20I at Eden Park on Friday.

Southee returned with bowling figures of 4-25 to help New Zealand bundle Pakistan for 180 runs while chasing 227.

The 35-year bowler’s impressive figures pushed him past the coveted 150-wicket milestone in T20I cricket, which he tops with 151 wickets.

Tim Southee is followed by Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (140) and Afghanistan’s spin wizard Rashid Khan (130) in the list of highest wicket-takers in T20I cricket.

Meanwhile, Southee led the bowling charts for New Zealand during the first T20I against Pakistan with four wickets after their batters posted a mammoth 226 runs.

Babar Azam and Ahmed knitted a promising 40-run partnership but Southee picked another wicket to send the latter back and reduce Pakistan to 130-4.
