Novak Djokovic reflects on his loss to Jannik Sinner in Australian Open

Novak Djokovic expressed his shock after he was outplayed by Jannik Sinner, who ended Djokovic’s 33-match winning streak to reach the finals of the Australian Open on Friday.

While talking to the media after the game in Melbourne, the Serbian called the match against Sinner his ‘worst Grand Slam’ match.

“He’s [Sinner] deservedly in the final. He outplayed me completely. Look, I was in a way shocked with my level,” said Djokovic.

“One of the worst Grand Slam matches I’ve ever played, at least that I remember,” Djokovic said after the match.”

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Jannik Sinner called it a ‘a very, tough match.’

“I started off really well. He missed in the first two sets. I felt like he was not feeling that great on court so I just tried to keep pushing,” said Sinner.

The Italian fourth seed was unfazed by dropping his first set of the tournament against the king of Rod Laver Arena, winning 6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (6/8), 6-3 to reach a first Grand Slam final.

He will face either third-seed Daniil Medvedev or sixth-seed Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s title match.

Ten-time champion Novak Djokovic, who had not tasted defeat at the Australian Open since 2018, was gunning for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title but Sinner ripped up the script in spectacular fashion.
